Vital Vasquez-Paredez, 40, of 12 Lincoln St., was also sentenced to 10 years post release supervision after pleading guilty to one count of felony sexual conduct against a child, the DA's office said,.

“Victims like this brave child suffer the burden of bearing the emotional scars of having been victimized by a sexual predator," said Zugibe. 'The defendant has now been held accountable and appropriately punished for the depraved acts he committed.”

Over a six year period, between Sept. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2016, Vasquez-Paredez engaged in a course of sexual conduct with a child less than thirteen years of age. The repeated physical contact with the victim occurred in the defendant's residence.

The victim's 12-year-old friend, who lived in the same home as defendant, told investigators that she had observed the defendant grab the victim and straddle her in his bedroom. The friend also claimed that Vasquez-Paredez had previously taken photographs of her.

Vasquez-Paredez will be required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registry Act, commonly known as Megan’s Law once he has served his prison time.
